The Cyprus Ski Club was formed in 1947 by a group of ski enthusiasts consisting of Cypriot and British Nationals as at the time Cyprus was part of the British Empire.

At the time, the Troodos resort was used only in the summer when the Government moved there for cooler conditions. The pioneers of skiing in Cyprus used to walk to Troodos in order to practice their sport, as the roads were not cleared from the snow.

The first ski lift was constructed on the hill opposite the Jubilee Hotel, and the pylons of this Lift can still be seen today. It was an ingenious contraption, powered by a Ford Diesel Engine, which, through rollers, circulated a continuous sisal marine rope, on which the skiers would hook a belt they were wearing and would be dragged to the top where they released the special clip of the belt.

For accommodation, the old Military hospital at Troodos was used with one dormitory for men, one for women, and a common room, which was used for eating and resting. The Ski Shop was housed in a wooden building, which was situated where the road ends today in the Government house complex above the Troodos - Prodromos road.

In the late 50s the British Military in Cyprus bought 2 small portable lifts, which they installed in the winter at the site where the Hera Lift is situated today. The one lift was installed starting from the Prodromos Road and would drag one person at the time. The second lift started from where the 1st lift finished and almost reached the top of the North Face.

With the Cyprus Independence in 1960, the Cyprus Ski Club had Cypriot and other Nationality members and the British Military and their dependants created the Near East Forces Ski Club (NEFSKI). The two Clubs are co-operate.

The Cyprus Ski Federation was formed in 1992 and undertook powers in the Competitive and International fields which were until then held by the Cyprus Ski Club.

The Members of the Cyprus Ski Federation today are the:

Famagusta Ski Club
Larnaca Ski Club
Limassol Ski Club
Nicosia Ski Club
Troodos Ski Club

There are more than 100 athletes registered with the Federation.  The athletes begin their preparation by joining the Pancyprian Academy.  As they progress, they enter the FIS Teams and the Elite Teams under the Federation and the best of them make it to the Cyprus National Ski Teams.

The Cyprus Ski Federation (CSF) prepares athletes for participation in the Slalom & Giant Slalom disciplines.  The Federation’s athletes take part in International Games abroad and aim to reduce their FIS Points and have managed to unfailingly participate in all the major events to date:  The Olympic Winter Games The FIS World Ski Championships The Youth Olympic Games, and etc

The CSF represents Cyprus in the International Ski Federation, the Biathlon Federation and the SES Nations Organization.

It is a Member of the Cyprus Olympic Committee and is the Official Body recognized by the Cyprus Sports Organization as the representative for Cyprus for Winter Sports.

In the international field, members of the Cyprus Ski Federation participate in FIS and SES Committees.  Cyprus currently holds the Presidency of the SES Ski Nations.

The Board, comprising of the eight elected members of the Cyprus Ski Club plus one member nominated by each Club, governs the Federation.

A major part of the work delivered by the Federation is processed by Sub-committees.  These are the:

National Teams Committee, which handles all matters that relate to athletes, participation in races, delegations to games, etc.

Competitions Committee, which organizes the National & International Competitions in Cyprus.  An Organizing Committee is formed each year to organize the Troodos FIS International Competitions.
